The Hardaways of Gonzales County, Texas

In 1863, Adam Hardaway of Virginia arrived in Gonzales County, Texas, the husband of Pleas Hardaway of Louisiana. Whatever their beginnings, the two established in the enclave of Hoods Point where they reared their children: Montgomery, W. H. (William Hillory), Turner, Richmond, Green, Anthony, Annais, Louis, and Sidney.
From that place in the wild uncertainty of south central Texas, they lived, loved, learned, and worshiped, in the attempt to defy the classic deep south scramble of the black-American existence.
